Bright Kids Learning Center - Summer Art Workshop 2008!

HomeWhat's Bright Kids All About?May 2, 2008
Hi! You have reached the site of the Bright Kids Learning Center -- one of the 5 social enterprise business plans awarded a grant by the Coca Cola Foundation during the Make It Happen! The First Social Enterprise Business Plan Writing Competition launched during the First Future Leaders of Asia Forum last January 17-19, 2008. The social entrepreneurship forum was sponsored by the Ateneo School of Governent and Ashoka. Let us introduce ourselves -- we are incoming seniors from the Ateneo de Manila University. Mian Alampay (BS Management), Kookie Magno (AB Psychology), and Mark Carrillo (BS Management).

This summer, we are holding the Bright Kids Summer Art Workshop at the Batasan Hills Elementary School. This May, we are teaching basic arts and crafts to 5 and 6 year old kids for one and a half hours each day. Art is one way of making the kids develop their creativity and explore their imagination. Moreover, we want it to be a venue for the kids to express themselves and to gain self-confidence.

Recently, we have launched a fundraising activity to sponsor the Art Kits that would be given to these kids. The Art Kits contain art materials that they could use even during the school year. Each P200 donation of Art Kits would also correspond to a donation to improve the facilities over at the Batasan Hills Elementary School. The school's principal, Rodolfo Modelo, expressed the urgency of having their school repainted and renovated in time for the coming school year. The more sponsorships we get, the more money could be given to buy the paint and repair materials needed for the renovations.

As a social enterprise, there needs to be a sustainable business to help support the cost of its operations. Later on, we plan to design planners and calendars using the artistic outputs of the kids attending the workshop. These planners would not only give these kids a venue to express their creativity but it would also be a way to further the cause of social entrepreneurship as well as the condition of public education in our country.

Please feel free to browse the site and look at the pictures of our day to day activities :)

I am broken because I easily want to give up. I thought that being in my senior year means that things would be fairly easy until graduation – but it’s nothing quite like that. With tons of stuff to do for academics and orgs, there are really... more
